Margie B. Mathis of Charlotte went home to be with the Lord on July 13, 2013. Born in Gaston County on March 16, 1921, she was the wife of the late Wendell Mathis for over 49 years and daughter of the late Robert Sidney and Pearl Hoover Black. Mrs. Mathis was a devoted wife, Mother and Grandmother, and was a very faithful member of Glenwood ARP Church in Charlotte for over 69 years, where she was a member of the Francis Broome Sunday School class. She was also an active member of the Alexander White Circle and Women of the Church for many years.
She is survived by 2 children; Lynn Mathis and wife Chris of Charlotte, Tony Mathis and wife Wanda of Charlotte. 4 grandchildren; Jason Mathis and wife Lindsay, Meredith Mathis Rogers and husband Trip, Grace Mathis Heffner and husband Forth and Jeremy Mathis; a sister Sarah Black Jackson and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 5 brothers and 3 sisters, Russell Black, Hoover Black, Erma Black, Kenneth Black, Carroll Black, Boyce Black, Lucille Caldwell and Thelma Fletcher. The family expresses gratitude to her caregiver over the past few years, Mrs. Anna Porter.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday July 17, 2013, 1PM in Glenwood ARP Church in Charlotte with Josh Brister to officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Glenwood ARP Church, 5024 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208.
