Margaret was born on July 1, 1925 and raised in Simpsonville, SC. She was the daughter of Alton Chandler and Lucia Garrett Chandler. Margaret married Bill W. Rice and they raised 4 children while living in Matthews, NC.
Margaret was a devoted wife and mother who set an amazing example of love, compassion, elegance, and grace. She began working at Ivey’s in Greenville, SC as a teen and continued a career in the fashion industry working in women’s, children’s, and men’s wear and gift shows for Bob and Joan Zimmerman. She also worked for Neff Brothers, Inc. representing the John Meyer line. Margaret, having grown up on a farm developed a lifelong love of gardening. She loved having a vegetable garden and worked diligently on her ornamental and flower gardens at their home and at their vacation homes in Blowing Rock and at Sunset Beach.
Margaret was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill W. Rice; sister Faye Hammond; brother Carol Chandler; son Jim Rice.
Margaret is survived by her sister Sarah Sherbert; three children Pamela Rice, Don and Beth Rice, and Jerry Rice; four grandchildren Laura and Bryan Froning, Anna Rice, John Rice, and Leslie and Jason DeKoster; four great grandchildren, Michael Froning, Emmie Froning, Lilly Froning, and Andrew DeKoster. She is also loved and remembered by Vicki Nicholson and Cheryl Price.
Visitation will take place at First Baptist Simpsonville on Monday, December 11, 2017 beginning at 2pm. Funeral Service will follow at 3pm. There will also be a visitation at Unity Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill, SC on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 beginning at 1pm. A Memorial Service will follow at 2pm.
