On January 27, 2022, Lugertha “Mama Lou” Morris, 86, of Charlotte departed this life on earth as Jesus wrapped her in His arms to take her home. Mama Lou was a former member of Second Missionary Baptist Church, and a current member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis L. Morris; and parents, Calvin and Margaret Byrd. She leaves to cherish her memories her beloved daughters, Wilma (Andrẻ) Gordon and Shelia Earvin; stepson, Anthony Morris; grandchildren, Kelvin (Vanisa) Byrd, Peter (L. Celeste) Peter, Itiat (Kimberly) Peter, Mykal (Dennis) Fraser, Derek Bush, Ronika Bush, Marie (Roderick) Bowman, Brandi (Judge) Collier, and Danielle Morris; brother, Rilous “Brother” (Zola) Byrd; nieces, Lynnette Byrd, Carol Gilbert, Joyce Ann Jackson; nephews Larry Byrd, Labarron Byrd, David Sandford (Mary) Morris; lifelong friends, Louise Tuggle and Phadiona Colson, 11 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives, and friends.
Lugertha will lie-in-state on Tuesday from 12:30-5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home in Chattanooga, TN. She will also lie-in-state on Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC. Funeral service will be Friday at 12:00 noon at Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastor Clifford Jones as the eulogist. Burial in Forest Lawn West Cemetery, Charlotte, NC.
