Joseph Rogers Mitchell

Charlotte - After a short stay at Atrium Hospital in Pineville and Mecklenburg Rehab, on June 8, 2021 at the age of 94 years, Joseph Rogers Mitchell passed peacefully from this life to his heavenly home.

Joe was born February 14, 1927 in Greensboro, NC, the son of James A. Mitchell and Annie Husketh Mitchell. Joe attended Grimsley High School in Greensboro and graduated from Guilford College with a BS degree in mathematics. He worked at Cone Mills in Reidsville and Pineville; then spent the remainder of his career at Barnhardt Mfg. as Personnel Director. After retiring, he worked part time delivering cars for City Chevrolet. Joe enjoyed spending time at Cherry Gove Beach, SC, visiting and having fun with his neighbors and friends.

Under the apprenticeship of Sidney Paine, Joe learned wood carving and assisted in the wood carvings at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Greensboro. He was a scoutmaster for his sons' Boy Scout Troop 104. He was a 32nd degree Mason at Steele Creek Lodge.

Joe married his wife, Rebecca B. Gleason in 1980 at Chalmers ARP Church and they enjoyed 40 years of happiness. He served as an elder and treasurer in Chalmers Church for many years.

Joe was always friendly and never met a stranger. He was a gentleman, always wanted a hug and had a great sense of humor. Joe was a wonderful friend, husband, father and PawPaw, who will be greatly missed. He loved his family, friends and neighbors. He is survived and was blessed by his wife, Becky and beloved fur baby, Joy Delight; five children: Ron Mitchell and wife Pam, Jeffrey Mitchell and wife Bunny, Andrea Mitchell, Beverly Raulerson and husband Ronnie, and Cheri Fee; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his two brothers, James Mitchell and Tom Mitchell, his first wife, Jackie (mother of Jeffrey, Andrea and Cheri, and Jean (mother of Ron and Beverly); and beloved fur baby, Sarah Jill Mitchell (Jillie Girl).

The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 pm on Saturday, June 12th, at McEwen Myers Park, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 13th, at Starmount ARP Church, 1501 Starbrook Drive, Charlotte, NC 28210, with receiving of friends from 2:00-2:45 pm prior to the church service.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, June 14th, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greensboro, NC. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Mitchell, Jeff Mitchell, Ronnie Raulerson, Chase Mitchell, and Will Mitchell.

The family wishes to give thanks to his doctors, nurses, and caregivers for their excellent care over the years.
