A proud North Carolina A & T University Aggie, Johnny’s college years had an enormous impact on his life. In addition to nourishing his lifelong love of learning, Johnny’s training eventually brought him and his many talents to Houston, where he worked almost for 40 years as a Principal Estimator for the firm that eventually became KBR. Throughout these years, his love for North Carolina A&T never dimmed. He served for many years as the president of the alumni association’s Houston Chapter and, more importantly, always sought out opportunities to encourage and support those seeking to attend his beloved school.
Family was of paramount importance to Johnny. He married Chris Meadows on October 16, 1993 in Houston. Together they raised a daughter Michelle who was born in 1999. She is now a student at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Johnny also loved to travel the world and to tend the garden at his home in southwest Houston. He was loving and kind; if he considered you a friend he was truly your friend.
Johnny is lovingly remembered by his wife of twenty five years, Chris Andrews and daughter, Michelle Meadows; three sisters, Geraldine (Gerri) Reese, Rosezetta (Rosa) Land, Jeanette Boyd (Larry) of Charlotte, NC; three brothers, Wheeler Reese (Barbara), Edward Reese (Martha), Lawrence Simpson (Shelia), of Charlotte, NC; one brother-in-law Ted Andrews (Elizabeth) of Binghamton, NY; one Uncle, Henry Meadows (Alean) of Monroe, NC; sixteen nieces/nephews, Tammy Reese, Richard Reese, Tawanda Reese, Jarrus Mitchell, Collin Reese, Jame’ Murphy, Matthew Reese, Brittany Reese, Mary Andrews, Willem Andrews, Christopher Walker, Candice Heath, Amber Simpson, Kenneth Simpson, Antoine Smith, Brandon Reese (deceased); numerous great nieces/nephews; one great great nephew and one great great niece and a host of cousins; a very special friend, who was like a father, Mr. James Jacobs.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the southwest office of Oncology Consultants who provided two and a half years of loving care and extraordinary support.
