Missing John on this sad anniversary. Love to his dear family on this difficult day.

Thinking of J Bishop today. He was a good man.

Hard to believe it has been 2 years already. I think of John often. He gave me my first chance to get into the TV business. Praying for all of the family and friends. Rest in peace John!

A treasured friend from high school days.  I have many wonderful memories of John.  Saying prayers for his dear family.  John will be missed by all of us whose lives he touched in his gentle way.  Rest in peace my old friend.

John was half my childhood. The memory of us hunting arrowheads,  listening to Bob Dylan albums in '65, and just being around him will always be  treasures . Janet, Sarah, and Rachel, we know our Creator in holding you and John in His hands.

I was fortunate to have had John as a guitar teacher for several years. He was a talented musician, but also a dedicated teacher that cared about his students and helping them grow musically. His calm, steady presence, attention to detail and kindness I can feel when I play. He helped me slow down and listen to what I was playing. He often said, “To play fast you need to go slow.” He realized music was a journey not a destination. He helped me be more patient with myself and enjoy the process. He left us too soon. My deep condolences to his family.

He was several notches above me in musical talent and ability but I was honored to play in a band with John, along with Ray Clemmer, Alan Tucker, Gail Boyer, Daniel Little, and Janet Myrick back around 2013/14&15 while he was teaching Guitar and Violin at the Belmont Fine Arts Academy.  After John moved on to bigger and better gigs with the Gaston Symphony, the StarDusters, etc., I was fortunate to enjoy his music on a few occasions when he played bass  with the symphony.  He was an accomplished musician, a true scholar, and a gentle man.   R.I.P.

John was my Boss at WJZY 46,  for 23 years, I was his Assistant Chief Engineer .  He also put WMYT 55 on the air.    
 John  spearheaded  the taking of WJZY from Analog to Digital for Capitol Broadcasting Co.. With all these accomplishments he still had the time to do what he loved which was music. John was a good and honest man, and will surely be missed.

I began fiddle lessons with John at age 63 in 2014, a rank beginner.  I have sung his praises as a music teacher ever since.  He evaluated and helped me choose my first fiddle, ( as well as the second one I bought, which at that point he told me I had the "disease"!) My life has completely changed due to music. With his encouragement I participated in Wernick method camps, and now in various local jams. I think of him most days when I practice, usually hearing him in my head correcting me for fluttering fingers or not using my pinky !! I learned to play Midnight on the Water in a way that it should be, not realizing until later that it was unique.   He will be greatly missed.  


Many do not know that John was the sound engineer on the Mary Jane Queen album, A Fist Full of Songs, which led to Mary Jane receiving the NC Heritage Award. 

My memories of John are full of music and delightful conversation. 

Becky and I will be praying for Janet and family as you cope with this loss. 

John was an extraordinary musician and friend.
We shared a YouTube moment from a high school band reunion that brought smiles to a lot of our fellow Central High Tiger Banders.  And John taught me a lot about playing.
Janet, my best to you; you had a very fine man.
I will miss him greatly.

I knew John when I worked at WJZY. He was such a genuine and nice person and would help you anytime he could. I can still hear his laugh.

John was one of the most amazing,  sincere and steady souls I worked with in broadcasting.  I  was also one of  the team that  worked with John to launch the new WGGT-TV  48, those many years ago.   It was an honor to know him.   Rest in peace John.  God Bless your final journey.  Blessings and sympathies to your family. 

Met John at a Bluegrass Music Training Seminar and became fast friends. Spent several years playing and enjoying bluegrass and classical music, I was the one who took the picture of him with his bass you see. Very sad to hear of his passing but sure he is adding to the talent and showing someone some chords they did not know. Rest In Peace my Friend! 

John was my first boss in the TV business. He hired me in 1983 to help sign on WGGT.  He was extremely patient, had to be! Very practical, no nonsense guy. And a great Engineer. He will be missed greatly by many. Rest in peace John....
