Jerry graduated with honors from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and with honors from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Master of Science degree in Hospital and Health Administration. After graduation from UAB in 1978, Jerry served in a variety of executive healthcare positions with Methodist Healthcare in Memphis, TN, Hospital Corporation of America in Nashville, TN, and also worked in Medical Practice Management in Nashville and Florence, AL until 1995 when he move to Charlotte to join Carolinas HealthCare System (now Atrium Health).
From 1995 until his retirement in 2017 Jerry held increasingly responsible Vice President roles in that fast growing system including physician practice management, ambulatory care facility acquisitions, strategic physician services and facilities planning and at the time of his retirement he also worked in CHS’ then new innovation and research division. When the system rolled out new and innovative services and programs, especially physician and outpatient centers, Jerry was usually somewhere in the background handling the research and planning or managing physician practices. He was very much a part of significant growth and development of CHS.
Jerry loved the healthcare field and the business of caring for others. His high standards and strong work ethic were driven by knowing that the community was the final benefactor of new medical services and locations that Jerry was involved in helping to create.
Jerry was a member of the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Marketing Development, a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a U.S., North Carolina and Charlotte Chapter member of the Medical Group Management Association.
Jerry was an active member of the Charlotte Rotary Club, a member of the board of the “Health Technology Center “and a founding Board Member of “Healthy Charlotte”.
One of his favorite community service activities was as an organizing task force member for “One Charlotte” where he and his son Nicholas volunteered.
Jerry had a few hobbies, like golf and reading. But when his children were born, they became the focus of his life. His absolute favorite thing to do was to spend time with his children. A more dedicated and loving father would be hard to find.
Surviving Jerry are his wife Blair Bryson, their children Nicholas and Caroline Bryson, all of Charlotte, as well as Jerry’s brother, Dr. Gene Bryson of Huntsville, AL.
Due to the Pandemic, services will be announced at a later date.
