She was born in May 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri to Jerome and Della Mae Mahaney. She married her high school sweetheart, Lloyd Toevs, in July 1949, who preceded her in death in 2013. They were married for 64 wonderful years.
Jeanne loved people and loved to make them laugh. She never met a stranger and was always smiling, always welcoming and outgoing. Her hobbies included playing the piano, painting, sewing, cross-stitching, embroidery, knitting and crocheting.
For many years Jeanne worked at the Charlotte Public Library, but she found her passion as a travel agent, which spanned over twenty years. During this time, she embarked on over 200 cruises and visited every continent and most countries. Both Jeanne and Lloyd loved traveling together and seeing the world.
But first and foremost, Jeanne was a dedicated wife and mother. Family was everything to her. She treasured her husband and children and the many young people who came into her life that she “adopted” into the family. We learned by her example how to live life to the fullest and not take anything for granted. Our home was filled with love and laughter. She will be very deeply missed and forever in our hearts.
Jeanne is survived by her daughter Valerie and sons Kevin and Brian (Christine).
A special gratitude goes out to the support teams at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster and the Atrium Health Main, Neuro Intensive Care Stroke Unit and the ICU Overflow Floor, for their extra-ordinary care shown to our mother.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice & Palliative Care.
