Jay is survived by his sister, Linda (Ira) Bass of Fort Mill, SC; his niece, Renee (Philip) Schreibman of Charlotte; his niece, Eliza (Rich) Carney of Charlotte; grandnephews, Asher and Mayer; grandnieces, Stella, Sadie, and Sylvie, all of Charlotte.
Jay is predeceased by his father, David Parton and mother, Ruth Soskel Parton.
Jay was born on January 4, 1952 in the Bronx, NY. He graduated from the prestigious Bronx High School of Science in 1969, from New York University School of Engineering and Science with a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering in 1973, and from the City University of New York School of Engineering with a Master of Engineering in Chemical Engineering in 1976.
Jay loved growing up in the Bronx, playing all types of sports – softball, stickball, basketball, hockey, paddleball, golf, football, and bowling. He was loyal to his favorite New York teams – Yankees, Giants, Rangers, and Knicks, and went to many games at Yankee Stadium and Madison Square Garden. He loved the beach, and spent many weekends at Orchard Beach, Jones Beach, Fire Island, and the Jersey Shore.
Over the course of his career, Jay held the positions of project engineer, process engineer, plant engineer, operations manager, plant manager, unit manager, and Vice President/General Manager, working for manufacturing companies such as Monsanto, American Polymers, Rotuba Extruders, Dynaloy, Inc., and MAPEI in New Jersey and Arizona, with emphasis in the areas of manufacturing, technical sales, R&D, purchasing, and quality control. During this period, he wrote and published three articles in technical journals.
Upon relocating to Charlotte, NC, Jay transitioned into the non-profit sector, becoming Operations Manager at the Foundation of Shalom Park. At Shalom Park, Jay’s projects encompassed audio/visual improvements, software installations, website maintenance, procedure manuals, signage systems, and scheduling procedures. Jay retired from the Foundation of Shalom Park on December 31, 2021.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, located at 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC 28104, 704-845-1068.
A Celebration of Jay’s Life and Shiva Minyan Service will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 8th at 7:00 pm at the home of Renee & Philip Schreibman.
