Born on May 20, 1941 in Durham, NC to Jennings and Lena Fine Jackson, Janis grew up in Greensboro, NC. Janis was very involved in her church as demonstrated by her love of Sunday school teaching, BSF circle leader, Prayer Team member and Good News Club Teacher. She was a long-standing member of Carmel Baptist Church. Janis also volunteered her time as a docent at the Hezekiah Alexander House.
Left to mourn her loss is her beloved husband of 59 years, Joseph Alvin Hough, cherished children Katherine Hough Mathison (David), Brenda Hough Fischer (Robert) and Joseph Brian Hough (Jennifer Boyd); treasured grandsons Robert Nathanael Fischer and Christian Jacob Fischer and sister Ruth Jackson Loudermilk.
Preceding Janis in death are her parents and brothers Herman Jackson, Norris Jackson and Glen Jackson.
The family will greet friends on Sunday evening May 9 from 7-9pm at McEwen Funeral Service located at 5716 Monroe Road in Charlotte. A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, May 10 at 11am at Carmel Baptist Church (upstairs) located at 1145 Pineville Matthews Road in Matthews. Burial immediately following at Gethsemane Cemetery and Memorial Gardens in Charlotte.
