Janet Margaret Smith

Janet was born on June 15, 1940 in Scranton, PA to the late David Hayden Jones and Beatrice Hannah Williams Jones. She was raised in Binghamton, NY. After graduating high school, she worked as a secretary at Broome Tech Community College. She later worked as a nursing assistant, Mary Kay consultant and ran a successful home business in silk flower arrangements. After retiring, she lived in Myrtle Beach, SC, moving back to the Charlotte area 2 years ago. She enjoyed all types of crafts, being active in church activities, spending time with friends, attending family gatherings, and relaxing at the beach.

She is survived by four children, Gail M Smith of Mt. Pleasant, NC, David A Smith (Crystal Owens Smith) of Wilmington, NC, Tricia L Sims (Tom English) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Cara S Smith (Shane Burrell) of Asheville, NC. She was also the grandmother of 10 grandchildren. Jennifer Burnette, Michelle Burnette (Thomas Penninger), Heather Smith, Hayden Smith, Haley Smith, Meredith Sims Blankenship (Cody Blankenship), Chandler Sims, Riley Sims, Josie English, and Bryant Burrell. She also leaves a niece Judy Jones Bolinski and a close cousin Donald Jones.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227. Please bring your favorite memory of Mrs. Smith to share.
