James “Jimmy” Vinton was born on March 30, 1981, in Youngstown, OH to Bruce and Patty (Strauch) Vinton. He was a graduate of Harding University High School in Charlotte, NC and Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC. On June 17, 2006, he married Bevin Buchanan, whom he met in High School.
Jimmy loved animals, especially dogs, and worked in various Veterinary hospitals in and around the Charlotte area. His passion for science brought him to his career in clinical research. He fiercely loved his friends, and he was completely devoted to those whom he cared about. Jimmy loved the band Nirvana and carried around his childhood stuffed animal “Blue-boy” for 39 years. He was an avid reader, an ally to his LGBTQ+ community, and a political advocate. On August 31, 2020, James Alexander Vinton of Rock Hill, SC, passed away at the age of 39.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his maternal Grandparents, Alex and Martha Strauch of Youngstown, OH; his paternal Grandparents James and Martha Vinton of Grove City, PA; his Uncle James Robert Vinton of New Castle, PA; his Uncle Thomas Spanglehour of Temple, GA; and his Aunt Margaret “Margie” Bibbs of North Olmsted, OH.
He is survived by his wife Bevin Vinton; his parents, Bruce and Patty Vinton; his brother Michael and husband Tony Spatafora; his niece Suzanna; his sister Jennifer and husband DJ Millmann; his Aunt Lynda Vinton; and several cousins, and grand cousins, nieces, as well as his cherished companion, his dog “Jethro”.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to Winthrop University, to the Winthrop Fund, and include in the comments that this is to further clinical research.
The family will be hosting a celebration of Jimmy's life on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at 3pm at South Charlotte Banquet Center.
