Jimmy, 83, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2022 at his home with his loving wife and family by his side and in the devoted care of Hospice. Born July 17, 1938 in Charlotte, N.C. he was a son of the late James T. Polk, Sr. and Flora Dixon Polk.
Following graduation from East High School, Jimmy served in the U.S. Navy for two years.
Delighting in working with the soil and making beautiful landscaped yards and gardens, Jimmy
opened Polk & Sons Landscaping Co., Inc. to fulfill his passions. He closed his company
and retired in 2012 but continued to help many others with their similar businesses. He loved all people – and especially his family. His laughter and bubbly personality was a
joyful delight to many.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his grandson, James Michael Polk.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nonia Whitley Polk; two sons, James T. "Trip" Polk, III and Michael Lane Polk (special daughter-in-law Risa); two grandsons, Lane Polk and Brett Polk all of Mint Hill, N.C.
He is also survived by two sisters, Joan P. Baker and Sylvia P. Wellmon of Charlotte, N.C., along with brothers-in-law, Bill Whitley, Paul Whitley (Vivian), two sisters-in-law Linda Arrington and Brenda Whitley, all of Harrisburg, N.C. and 15 nieces and nephews.
The family will have a Memorial Service to celebrate his life at 12:00 pm on Friday, February 11, 2022 at McEwen - Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Charlotte, N.C. There will be a private burial in the cemetery at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church at a later date.
