He graduated from Harding High School class of 1961 and attended Wingate College. He was employed by Duke Energy and retired from there.
He was a perfectionist and could fix or make anything. Jim became an avid student of the Bible reading and learning every chance he got. He loved his family and his grandson who was the “apple of his eye” and spending time at his place on Lake Norman.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Ross Blackwood; grandson, Jeffrey of Denver,NC; former wife, Gloria Mullis Blackwood of Charlotte; sister, Judy Blackwood Holland and her husband, Charles, of Lincolnton, NC; nieces, Jennifer H. Gilmore & Cheryl H. Mills (Rudy).
A service to celebrate his life will be held at Forest Lawn West on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Dixon Free officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions may be sent to the Humane Society.
