He was born in Lexington, NC to the late James Robert Alexander and late Delores (Beck) Alexander Rose. He grew up in Davidson County, graduating from East Davidson High School and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. As a youth he was an active member of Calvary United Church of Christ in Thomasville.
He worked most of his career in the Insurance Finance industry, most recently at Imperial Premium Finance Solutions Corp (IPFS). He settled in Charlotte with his beloved wife Eileen (Kelly) in 1992. They welcomed daughter Catherine Elizabeth in 1994. Jimbo, or just Bo, as he was known by friends, had a deep love of music, grilling, gardening, building bonfires, and of course his Tarheels and Mountaineers. He could be found most fall Saturdays in Boone for football games at Eileen and Catherine’s alma mater, Appalachian State University. Always cooking up something great with the “Liberry Deck Tailgate” crew. He loved spending time on his back deck; he named it “Beau Willie’s Back Porch.” Friends and family referenced it so much that those who had never been there thought it was a new restaurant in town. James had a playful sense of humor, a quick wit, and a kind and loving heart. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, nephew, uncle, and friend.
James is survived by his wife and best friend of 31 years, Eileen Kelly Alexander, and daughter Catherine Elizabeth Alexander; his sister Robin Huneycutt (Don), of Lexington, their daughter Janna Walker (John) and Great Nieces, Ashton and Emory, of Winston Salem, his Mother and Father-in-law Gerard and Patricia Kelly, of Charlotte. Brothers’ in law Paul, Stephen, and Sean Kelly, all of Charlotte, Sister-in-law Joan Kelly (Robert) Stegall-Smith and their daughter Mary, of Winnsboro SC. He also leaves behind a large and loving extended family.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in James’ name to Crisis Assistance Ministry of Charlotte, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or Hospice Palliative Care of Charlotte.
A celebration of life for James will be held Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 3:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210, followed by a reception at 4:00 PM.
