She was born November 12, 1924 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her family moved to Sanford, North Carolina in 1928 and she attended schools there, graduating in 1942 from Sanford High School. She was an excellent student and was recruited out of high school to work for the Register of Deeds of Lee County.
Jacky and Marion Eugene Carnes were married on January 27, 1943 and he was drafted shortly thereafter to serve in World War II. After his discharge, they settled in Charlotte, North Carolina. He predeceased her August 8, 1985. Their only child, Deborah Yvonne, was born to this union.
Jacky was employed for 31 years by General Motors Corporation and retired in 1982.
During the following years, she did volunteer work.
On January 1, 1989, she and Otis S. Skipper were married. A few years later they moved to Mint Hill. “Skip” predeceased her on June 14, 2002, after a short illness, but they did a lot of living and traveling in those 13 years.
Jacky was the youngest of seven children born to William Wilbur and Meta Elizabeth Cunningham. Her parents and six siblings predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her beloved grandson, Christopher Sean Lutz, Brevard, North Carolina.
Affectionately referred to as “Mimi”, she is survived by her daughter, Deborah Carnes Lutz and husband, Eddie, Mint Hill, North Carolina; grandson, Jonathan David Lutz, Wilmington, North Carolina; great-granddaughter, Kyrra Shipman-Lutz (Christopher’s child), Lexington, South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Jacky loved working in her yard and spent many happy hours riding her John Deere mower, trimming shrubbery, planting a vegetable garden, and growing beautiful flowers. She was a superb seamstress and made most of her and her daughter’s clothes. Jacky was a member of the Mint Hill Red Hat Society. She also loved to cook and entertain and hosted ACC parties for Skip’s friends.
As a member of Blair Road United Methodist Church, she was active in the Hannon Sunday School Class, the Mary Helen Circle, and Young at Heart. She also enjoyed the fellowship and support of Mint Hill Presbyterian Church.
A Service of Resurrection will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, with entombment to follow in Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum, Charlotte, North Carolina. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
