Mr. Hassen, age 88, of Charlotte, NC, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012.
He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on February 17, 1924 the son of the late Amran Hassen and Grace Keenen Hassen and was a member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Beulah Mae Harmon Hassen; a brother, Amran Hassen Jr. and two sisters, Elizabeth (Honey) Ferrell and Virginia Sisko.
Mr. Hassen served his country proudly in the US Navy during WWII. He worked for the City of Charlotte and later as a truck driver for Yellow Freight. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great and great great grandfather, brother and friend.
Surviving are his daughters, Sandra Hassen (David), Patricia Hassen Gwaltney, Phyllis Hassen Askea and Cheryl Hassen Buffkin; grandchildren, Kimberly Lawson, Eric Jones, Jr. (Eileen), Brad Jones and Michael Gwaltney; great grandchildren, Kristin Lawson, Andrew Lawson, Evan Gwaltney and Ethan Gwaltney; great great grandchild, Orion Richard Daniel Ira Rauch; and sister, Etta Marie Helms.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at McEwen Funeral Service, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212 with the Reverend Leland K. Stephens officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.
