Born in Charlotte, NC, to the late Bland and Virginia Hathcock, Hope was a 1971 graduate of West Charlotte High. She received her BA in music education in 1975 from Gardner Webb University, and completed her master level studies at Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI. Hope was certified in both music and elementary education and was employed for many years with Orange County, Florida Public School System as an elementary teacher. A companionate person, Hope loved teaching children how to read, and gave of herself to her family and others.
Surviving are her husband, Jack D. King, Esquire, of the home; her daughter, Lauren Hope King, Orlando, FL; sister, Faith H. Sawyer and husband, Pierce, of Charlotte, NC; brother-in-law, Bruce W. King and wife, Kathleen, Kings Mountain, NC; sisters-in-law, Norma Pettus of Kings Mountain, NC, Joyce K. Allen and husband, Rick, of Grover, NC; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 7:00 until 8:30 pm Friday, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, July 7, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte, with The Rev. Arnold Kessler of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, and The Rev. Gene Alexander, Senior Pastor of The Possibility Church in Rockingham, NC, officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 pm at Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain, NC.
