The youngest of three children, Lewis was born on February 11, 1943 in Greenville, SC to the late Pearce Cox and Annie May Montgomery.
Lewis was a graduate of West Mecklenburg High School. While hanging out with one of his school friends, Billy Correll, he happened to meet Billy’s sister, Kathy. Lewis and Kathy fell in love and were married on Valentine’s Day in 1964 in the Berryhill Baptist Church rectory in Charlotte.
Lewis was a jack of all trades and could do just about anything. He was a diesel and car mechanic for several years, and he restored old cars, vans, and motorcycles, making them look amazing. In 1996, he decided to change careers and acquired his Real Estate License, working for Allen Tate Realty. He also worked at FleetNet America in Cherryville as a Team Care Account Representative until he retired in 2012.
“The life of the party” is the best way to describe Lewis; he loved to sing and dance, and was known as the “Karaoke King.” No matter where he was, he always found the nearest place that had karaoke. He sang in almost all of the karaoke bars in Gaston County, and most recently, he found his favorite place to sing was at Blossoms in Bessemer City. Throughout the years of singing at different places, he has made numerous friends that all loved him and loved to hear him sing. Not only was he a great singer, he could also play numerous instruments, including the guitar, banjo, piano, violin – you name it, he could play it. A motorcycle enthusiast as well, he owned several Harley Davidson’s and loved riding with his friends and as part of the Christmas Toy Runs for Kids.
Lewis and Kathy were longtime, faithful members of Harvest Church in Charlotte until they relocated to Bessemer City in the late 1990s.
Those left to remember Lewis include his daughters, Tammy Carter and husband, Michael, of Charlotte, and Teresa McDonald and husband, Jerry, of Bessemer City; his grandson, Dylan Flowe and wife, Cassidy; his granddaughter, Jennifer McDonald; his great-grandchildren, Jack Flowe and Jordan McDonald; his niece, Sandy Thomas and husband, Mike; his great-niece, Heather Pettitt; his brothers-in-law, Billy Correll and wife, Nikki, Bobby Correll and wife, Pam, and Larry Correll and wife, Angela; his sisters-in-law, Carol Poston and husband, Kenneth, Connie Frantz and husband, Michael, and Linda Correll; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
Lewis has been reunited in Heaven with the love of his life, his wife, Kathy; his parents, Pearce and Annie May; his sister, Lavinia Mason; his brother, Larry Cox; his niece, Patricia Jones; his nephews, Tommy Martin and Mike Martin; and many other cherished family members.
