She is survived by her husband Ben. and son, Hayden, as well as her parents, Jim and Sharon Young of Hanover, Pennsylvania, and a sister, Jennifer.
Heather was a loving mother, wife and friend, and a loyal, thoughtful, compassionate human being . Her quiet strength and tranquil, indelible spirit touched many lives. She was always the voice of reason and her calm, diplomatic manner put everyone at ease. Those who knew her, whether it was through school, animal rescue, baseball or work, will remember her with love and respect.
One of the biggest passions in Heather’s life was animal welfare, and she was on the front lines of rescue for more than 20 years. She gave freely to animal charities far and wide, but it was pit bulls who had her heart. Over the years she worked tirelessly to educate and raise awareness about the breed, blazing trails and saving innumerable lives along the way.
Heather's dedication to animals was second to none, and her loss leaves the rescue community with a void that can never be filled.
A celebration of Heather’s life will be held Friday, October 8, 2021 at 6 p.m. at McEwen - Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. Her family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Heather’s memory to the animal rescue/charity of your choice. A few of Heather’s favorite rescues are Buffalo C.A.R.E.S, North Meck Animal Rescue and Halfway There.
