He was born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina on November 16, 1920 to Harry
Lynn Bradford and Gertrude Fisher Bradford. He graduated from Cornelius High School
and entered the United States Army, serving during World War II.
Gene began a career in building and construction working at Southeastern Construction Company. He
eventually became a Building Inspector and then the Chief Building Inspector for the
City of Charlotte, retiring in 1984. His hobbies included fishing, woodworking and
making furniture, growing his yearly vegetable garden, assisting his wife with her cake
decorating and catering business and making homemade banana ice cream.
Gene was also a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church where he and his wife were faithful
members in their Sunday School Class.
Gene married Lillian Lane Bradford on January 26, 1963 after going on a blind date.
Together they shared nearly 57 years of love and devotion.
Gene is proceeded in death by his wife, Lillian Lane Bradford on August 29, 2019, two
brothers, Fred Bradford and Marvin Bradford and one sister, Ruby Bradford Black.
He is survived by his son Gary Bradford of Sherrills Ford, NC, granddaughter Amy (Jeff)
Wilcox of High Point, NC, grandson Brent (Stacy) Bradford of Lincolnton, NC, grandson
Lane (Amanda) Bradford of Denver, NC, great-granddaughters, Taylor (Brett) Bowen,
Charlee Bradford and Brelyn Bradford, and great-grandsons Nathan and William
Wilcox, Blake Bradford and Beau Bradford.
Funeral services for Gene will be held on Wednesday, October 9th at McEwen Funeral
Service in Charlotte with visitation at 1:30pm and service at 2:30pm, followed by committal service at Sharon Memorial Park at 3:30pm.
