Gloria "Judy" Thompson Smith, 92, of Charlotte passed away December 14, 2024. Born August 8, 1932, in Union County, she was the daughter of the late William O. and Eula M. (Sinclair) Thompson. She married Douglas R. Smith May 9, 1953 in Waxhaw.
A graduate of Jackson High School, Judy was employed as a secretary at Springs Mill in Fort Mill. She was a devoted member of Providence Baptist Church in Charlotte where she volunteered for Vacation Bible School regularly. She was also a member of the Charlotte Women's Christian Club and volunteered for the Women's Jail Ministry.
Known for her culinary skills, everyone enjoyed her pound cakes and pumpkin bread.
Judy had a quick wit and the right amount of sass to go with all that beauty.
In addition to her her husband of 71 years; Judy is survived by her children, Susan (Mark) Fox, Jan Smith and Douglas (Missy) R. Smith; grandchildren, Preston Smith, Austin Smith, Mark Fox Jr., Emma Smith and Caleb Smith; great-grandchildren, Faye and Inga Smith; sisters, Billie Robinson and Sally Pardue; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her brother, Webb Thompson and her sister, JoAnne Stogner.
A visitation for Judy will be held Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 12 p.m. until the time of her funeral at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC.
