Gilda Fisher Meitl passed away peacefully on December 1, 2011 at Mecklenburg Healthcare Center in Charlotte, North Carolina surrounded by many family members. Gilda was born on May 15, 1929 in Mooresville, NC to the late James Edward and Gretchen Cowan Fisher.

Raised in Charlotte, Gilda graduated from Charlotte Technical High School in 1948 and married Joseph Meitl in April of 1954. She resided in Kansas and Colorado for many years before returning to Charlotte in the 1970s.

Gilda was the primary caregiver of her mother until her death in November 2006. For many years, she took her mom back to their home church, Spencer Memorial Methodist and participated in the Cup Ministry helping the less advantaged.

In addition to her parents, Gilda was preceded in death by her twin sister, Hilda Stewart and sisters, Kathryn Cline, Ann Caudle and Judy Schmidt, as well as her nephew, Joseph Caudle. She is survived by sister, Susan Thornton (Bob) of Charlotte, fifteen nieces and nephews, and many other extended family members.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 3rd at 11:30 a.m. at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte with her nephews as pallbearers. Father Mark Lawlor of St. Vincent’s Catholic Church will preside.

The family will be at the home of Susan and Bob Thornton.
