Gene is survived by his daughter Tammy Brafford (Billy) of Concord, NC; grandsons Joel Brafford (Christine) and Chris Brafford (Tyler) of Concord and two great grandsons Jayden Brafford (age 10) and Brantley Brafford (age 3). Gene is also survived by his longtime partner of over forty years, Jo Ann Carrigan of Charlotte, NC; her son Michael Carrigan and daughter Betty Carrigan of Charlotte, NC; grandson Justin Carrigan (Nicole) of Harrisburg, NC and great granddaughters Ashley Ticknor and Jessica and Avery Carrigan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Towe, stepfather Homer Bean and mother Leona Reavis Bean, all of Charlotte.
Gene was born on August 22nd, 1939 in Charlotte NC to Floyd and Leona Towe.
Gene became interested in the printing industry and devoted his career to this trade working in various printing shops in the Charlotte area. The last 15 years of his career was devoted to Discount Printing where he retired in 2010 when the company closed. Gene remained close friends to the owners, Paul and Connie Snyder, helping them through the illness and death of Paul in 2010.
Gene loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved hanging out with his friends, playing golf, fishing and spending time with his family.
A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, January 2 from 5-7pm at McEwen Funeral Service located at 5716 Monroe Road in Charlotte. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gene’s life.
The family would like to thank everyone for the phone calls, visits, thoughts and prayers over the past few weeks. A special thank you for the Novant Health Hospice team for their compassion and care during the short time Gene was in their care.
