Gene Porter Thomas

Gene Porter Thomas, 89, of Charlotte, NC, died Thursday, March 28, 2013, after a short illness. Born in Charlotte, she was the daughter of the late Ethel and Hazel Porter, and was predeceased by her husband, Charlton L. Thomas, and a brother, Hazel Porter, Jr. She was a graduate of Central High School and retired from Dow Chemical Company in Atlanta, GA. Gene was a life-long member of the Little Church on the Lane. Mrs.Thomas is survived by a daughter, Kim Burch (Paul) of Pageland, SC; granddaughters, Kendall Burch Graves (Christian) and Ashley Burch of Jefferson, SC; a grandson, Mike Burch of Pageland, SC; a great-grandson, Baylor Graves of Jefferson, SC; a step-daughter, Carolyn Brown; granddaughter, Lisa Bishara (Tarek); and great-granddaughter, Kathryn Bishara; all of Florence, SC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, North Carolina, 28212. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery, Charlotte, NC.
