Grover Bob Cloninger, age 84, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022. Born November 2, 1937 in Charlotte, NC, he was the son of Grover P. and Daisy L. (Alexander) Cloninger. He married Kathy Batis in March of 1961.
A Veteran of the U.S. Navy, Bob retired from CSX Transportation after numerous years of employment. He was a member of Thrift United Methodist Church, Charlotte.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Bob enjoyed gardening, watching baseball and basketball and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his sons, Stuart Cloninger, Steven (Dianne) M. Cloninger and Nelson G. Cloninger; grandchildren, Miranda (Kevin) Thompson, Steven Cloninger Jr., Katherine Cloninger and Marcella Cloninger; great-grandchildren, Josh, Hannah, Caleb, Lilly and Zoe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Merle Slaunwhite and brother, Dr. Carroll Cloninger.
A visitation for Bob will be held Thursday, October 13, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Thrift United Methodist Church, 8245 Moores Chapel Road, Charlotte, NC 28214; with the funeral service at 1:00 PM at the church. Burial will take place at Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208.
