As the daughter of Elder C.M. Mills, Frieda was raised in the Bear Creek Association of the Primitive Baptist Church. She remained an active member of High Hill Primitive Baptist Church throughout her life.
Frieda obtained a B.S. in Medical Technology from Women’s College in Greensboro, NC in 1952 and was very proud of her education. She worked as a medical technologist for over 30 years. After retirement, Frieda continued to serve the medical community through her volunteer service at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, which is now part of Novant Health.
In her spare time, Frieda enjoyed gardening. She loved her flowers, was active in the Woodberry Forest Garden Club, and received several “Yard of the Month” awards. Frieda was an amazing cook and kept three growing boys well-fed. Her boys most remember the numerous casseroles, fried chicken, homemade chicken salad, and Chocolate Eclair Cake (which was her grandson, Nicholas’ favorite!). However, one of her favorite meals was a simple homegrown tomato sandwich on white bread with Dukes mayonnaise, salt and pepper.
Frieda also was a staunch UNC Tar Heel Basketball fan. In honor or Frieda, Go Tar Heels!!
She is survived by her sons, Thomas Huntley, Rick Huntley (Amy) and Matt Huntley (Tammy); daughter-in-law, Michelle Huntley; grandchildren, Hannah Jones (Alex), Daniel Huntley, Sarah Huntley, Jonathan Huntley, and Nicholas Huntley.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Rex R. Huntley; son, Timothy Huntley; and brother, James C. Mills.
