Two of seven children, she and her twin brother, James, were born on November 11, 1933 in Charlotte to the late Robert Madison Hines and Ada Price Hines.
A Charlottean all her life, Frances attended city schools, including Paw Creek High School. In 1951, when she was 18 years old, she eloped in York, SC with the love of her life, Lonnie King. Frances and Lonnie started their family two years later, and went on to welcome a second child two years after that. They enjoyed 27 wonderful years of marriage, only cut short by Lonnie’s untimely passing in 1978 at just 45 years old.
When her children were young, Frances went to work at Hudson Hosiery, where she stayed for several years until she took a job at the plastic manufacturing company Owens-Illinois, Inc. At Owens-Illinois, she was primarily responsible for operating the extruder machine, which produced plastic and plastic products for other businesses. She remained employed there for over two decades until her retirement at age 62.
Although her job commitments and her hardworking nature characterized much of her life, Frances had many hobbies and explored many interests over the years. She enjoyed cooking when she was younger, and she had lifelong passions for animals, dancing, country music, and Elvis. She also loved going to the beach – any beach – and especially enjoyed beach music.
Frances’s good nature and generous spirit were recognized by everyone who met her. She will be missed.
Those left to honor Frances’s memory include her children, Connie Biggerstaff and Terry Love (“Sonny”); her grandchildren, Candy Love (Rob), Laura Love (Brandon), Stacy and John “Pete” Biggerstaff (Shanna); her great-grandchildren, Heather, Tiffany, Kelsey, Destiny, Jesse, and one on the way; seven great-great grandchildren; her brother, Roger Hines; and her special fur babies, Gypsy and Tippy; as well as numerous other loving family members and friends.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ada Hines; her loving husband, Lonnie King; and her siblings, James Hines, Paul Hines, Jack Hines, Nora Riddle, and Madeline King.
