She spent her childhood in South Carolina, and then at age 11 moved to New York City. After graduating high school there, she returned home to the south when she went to the University of North Carolina and earned a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing and became a registered nurse. She later earned a M.Ed. from Florida Atlantic University. Vicki had a long and rewarding nursing career, which included working in hospitals, pediatrician offices, and teaching community health nursing at UNC-Charlotte. However, she loved being around children and she most enjoyed her 17 years as a school nurse in the Charlotte Mecklenburg school system.
Outside of work, Vicki loved gardening, arranging flowers, and she constantly had multiple craft projects going. She always looked forward to vacationing at the beach and walking along the shore, collecting seashells. Vicki especially loved springtime and watching her flowers bloom in the yard. She was a woman of deep faith and was active in church activities and supporting missionary work. Vicki loved her Lord and loved her church, Christ Covenant. She loved serving others and found joy in comfort in reading God’s Word. Even to the end, an open Bible, with plenty of underlined verses, was always within reach.
Vicki was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dick Evans; sister Alex Wilde; stepfather Fred Murray. She is survived by her children Elyse (Scott) Whitlock, Chris (Julie) Evans, Andrew (Paloma) Evans; grandchildren Zack (Melissa) Whitlock, Sam (Ivana) Whitlock, Caleb Whitlock, Ben Evans, Caroline Evans, Gabe Evans, Mia Evans; great grandchildren Vigo and Lyra Whitlock; niece Lexi Wilde; nephew Michael Wilde.
Arrangements are under the care of McEwen Funeral Service Charlotte Chapel.
