Frances B Byers

Frances was born October 8, 1925 in Gastonia, NC. She was the daughter of the late Charles Saul and Garey Hartsell Byers. She grew up in Shelby, NC, graduating from Shelby High School before attending Asheville Biltmore College. She later served as a clerk at the Weather Service at Langley Field Air Force Base and also worked at the Charlotte Mental Hygiene Clinic.

The joy of Frances’ life was her family. She was a much loved and cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She loved all people – never meeting a stranger. She was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, John Welborn Byers, Jr. of Brighton Gardens South Park, Charlotte; her children, Debra Byers and husband Phil of Charlotte, Susan Muir and husband George of Augusta, GA, John Byers III and wife Angie of Charlotte and Martha Byers and husband John of Livingston, TX; her beloved grandchildren, Martha Swaim and husband Morgan, Sara Muir, George Muir, Jr., Welby Byers, Mary Charles Byers; and great-granddaughter, Maley Swaim. She is also survived by a brother, Richard Byers of Charlotte and wife Ruth, and sister, Martha Ann Laney of Shelby. Frances was preceded in death by siblings, Charles Byers, David Byers and Jane Byers Long.

Frances and John, long time members of Myers Park Baptist Church, enjoyed the fellowship of the Fifth Dimension Sunday School Class, as well as activities at Myers Park Country Club, where she and John became members in 1960.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 6 pm-8 pm at Harry & Bryant Funeral Home, 500 Providence Road in Charlotte.

The family will attend a private burial at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 9 am. A memorial service at 11 am will follow for all wishing to celebrate Frances’ life at Myers Park Baptist Church, 1900 Queens Road in Charlotte. A reception will be held after the service in the fellowship hall.
