Eugene (Gene) Carpenter, 72, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on March 14, 2013 at Summit Place in Charlotte. He was born on March 2, 1941 in Charlotte, a son of the late Eugene Roy Carpenter Sr. and Willie Mae Prater Carpenter.
In 1963, Gene graduated from NC State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to work for White Westinghouse and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Gene had a variety of interests; in particular, he enjoyed reading, genealogy research, gardening, woodworking, and antiques.
He is survived by his sons, Scott and John; daughters, Sheila and Gina; sister, Margaret Ann Smith; friend and former wife, Rita Kelly; and six grandchildren.
A service by the graveside will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2013 at Evergreen Cemetery, 4426 Central Ave., Charlotte, with the Reverend Michael Cummings officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
