Ernest "Ernie" Rose, Jr., 86, of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Long Island, New York, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. Present at his side at his passing was his daughter, Deborah Rose.
Ernie was born October 3, 1927, to the late Ernest and Ernestine Rose on Long Island, New York. Ernie owned his own appliance repair business on Long Island until his retirement in 1987. Upon retirement, he and his wife, Pat relocated to Arden, NC, then in 1993, moved to Charlotte, NC so they could be closer to their grandchild, Jennifer. Ernie and his wife Pat enjoyed spending their time together ballroom and round dancing. Ernie also enjoyed discovering his hidden talent for carving, and enjoyed carving birds and making large engraved toy chests for his grandchildren, Jennifer and Christopher, and a rocking ‘horse’ type motorcycle for his grandchild, Jason.
Ernie suffered from Alzheimer’s and was cared for by a wonderful group of loving people at Clare Bridge of Monroe Square the last two years of his life. They cared for him in a loving environment and treated him with dignity, respect and understanding. His family is forever grateful and feels very blessed to have had Ernie cared for by them.
Ernie is survived by sister, Marie Latchaw of South Carolina (93); daughter, Deborah Rose and husband, Robert Kline, of Charlotte, NC, daughter, Wendy Morin of Charlotte, NC; and grandchildren, Ian Rose (39), Christopher Kolenda (23), Jennifer Kline (22) and Jason Kline (18).
Predeceasing Ernie were his sisters, Ruth Lemlie, Florence Wedemeyer, son, Robert Rose (2010) and wife, Patricia Donovan Rose (2012), after 62 years of marriage.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 3:00 until 4:00 pm Sunday, March 30, at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC, with a funeral service to immediately follow at 4:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be 11:00 am Monday, March 31, at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, a disease which Ernie suffered from for many years, will be welcomed. You can log onto ALZ.org, click on ‘Make a Donation’ and then click on ‘Tribute Memorial Donation’ to honor Ernie.
