Emroy was born November 6, 1920 at St. Peter’s Hospital, a son of Emroy H. Blanton and June Putnam Blanton. Immediately following graduation from Central High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on December 20, 1941 following the attack on Pearl Harbor. He became a crew chief and flight engineer aboard C-47, C-46 and B-17 planes, serving on many combat missions. He served in the 56th Squadron, 375 Group of the 5th Air Force for over two years in the South Pacific in six campaigns from New Guinea to the Philippines, and received the Air Medal for Heroism for his efforts.
Following the war, he worked for Friden Calculating Machine Co. for six years before forming his own company, Data Systems Machine, Inc., an electronic business machine company.
Mr. Blanton is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Virginia Blanton and Susan Blanton Senn and her husband, Charles, and his grandson, Charles C. Senn, all of Charlotte.
His loving wife, Marillyn (Mary) Taylor Blanton, preceded him in death in 2011.
A service to celebrate Mr. Blanton’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2nd, from the graveside at Sharon Memorial Park with the Reverend Dr. Tim Moore officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery briefly following the service.
