Betty, 92, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013 at The Carriage Club. Born September 26, 1920 in Bourbon County, KY, she was one of twin daughters of the Reverend Linn A. and Sidney B. Tripp. Betty was graduated Magna Cum Laude from Butler University, Indianapolis, Indiana in 1941.
Her family includes her husband of 65 years, Col. Charles L. Crain; her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Craig Folnsbee, of Charlotte; her grandchildren, James Zachary Folnsbee and his wife, Marcia, and Alexandra Elizabeth Folnsbee McKinney and her husband, Christopher; three great-grandchildren, Luke and Cohen Folnsbee, and Zoe McKinney, all of Charlotte; as well as her twin sister, Mary Tripp Evans, of Cincinnati, OH; nephews, Mark Evans and his wife, Chris, and Robert G. Crain and his wife, Marie; and niece, Melody Kuhns and her husband, Steve, all of Texas.
Betty was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, deeply caring for her extended family and friends as well. She was most supportive of her husband during his military career, and while with him in Sasebo, Japan, she volunteered and taught in the Dependent School and also served as a volunteer court reporter for the military court of the 34th Infantry Regiment.
Later, Betty was awarded a Commendation by the Commanding General, U.S. Army Stuttgart, Germany, for her work as a Girl Scout Leader, a Sunday school teacher, and active participant in other youth activities and the Army Wives’ Club. She was always a willing helper whenever volunteers were needed.
A service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 25th in the chapel of Harry & Bryant Funeral Home, 500 Providence Road. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. Interment will be in Sharon Memorial Park.
