Charlotte - Thanks be to God for Edwin Dean Ferguson’s 95 years of life. Born in Wilkes County, NC, Dean was a fiercely independent, renaissance man with a compassionate and generous heart. After graduating from the University of Tennessee, he earned a master’s degree in accounting and economics.
As a Certified Public Accountant, Dean worked for various companies before retiring after a long and blessed career with Deloitte & Touche. Dean’s interests included tax preparation, classic cars, religious studies, playing piano, ballroom dancing, current events, trips to the beach, and gardening. As a longtime resident of Myers Park, he loved his home, which was featured in The Charlotte News in 1973.
Dean served as a deacon and elder at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church, where he faithfully attended worship and actively participated in the weekly men’s Lunch Bunch.
A memorial service will be held at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, November 29 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, gifts to Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church, 2929 Selwyn Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28209 are encouraged.
Dean was predeceased by his mother, Floretta Minton Ferguson, whom he adored and cared for to the end of her life; his father, T. R. Ferguson; and a sister, Juanita Ferguson Morrison. He is survived by cousins in Wilkes County, NC, and dear friends, Lisa and Ron Nelson.
Dean concluded his spiritual autobiography by writing, “God does exist. There is a place beyond.” Amen, Dean, Amen.
