Dru Smiley, 78, of Charlotte, NC entered into eternal rest on August 31, 2010 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House of Huntersville surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 17, 1932 in Inman, SC, a daughter of the late Fred and Cora Stone Holden.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Dean Holden, and one sister, Lorene Ivester. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Thomas E. Smiley; three children, Ed Smiley and wife Cindy of Waxhaw, NC, Steve Smiley and wife Nancy of Charlotte, Lisa Russell and husband Keith of Pawleys Island, SC; six grandchildren, Allison Lunsford and husband Shane, Caroline and Susannah Smiley, Mackenzie and Luke Russell, Heather Baerga and husband Angelo; four great grandchildren, Noah and Cooper Lunsford, Triston and Caleb James; five sisters, Jenny McGraw of Myrtle Beach, SC, Myrt Thornburg and husband Bill, Pat Craig and Rachel Albertson of Charlotte, Kate Fencher and husband Jerry of Albemarle, NC; one brother, Larry Holden and wife Gloria of Concord, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dru was a graduate of Thomasboro High School. She loved spending time with her family, taking trips to Myrtle Beach, bowling, playing golf at Carolina Golf Club and spending time with all of her dear friends. She was a member of Lighthouse Church at Steele Creek.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Smiley will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 3, 2010 at Harry & Bryant Company, “Chapel in the Oaks”, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte. The family will receive friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Charlotte Memorial Gardens.
