Dorothy Evelyn Smith, 82, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Saturn Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. A daughter of the late Charley Camp and Mary Wannamaker Camp, she was born on January 2, 1930 in York County, SC. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, trips to the beach as well as traveling across the U.S. to visit her many friends and family. Dorothy enjoyed a long career as a registered nurse in Charlotte and Raleigh, NC.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00PM, Saturday, July 28th at The Derita Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service, 6300 Mallard Creek Road, with her brother, Rev. Jimmie Camp, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial of cremains will be in Steel Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, Peter Byrum, of Newport Beach, CA, Robert Byrum and wife Becky, of Charlotte; two brothers, Charlie Camp and wife Mary, of Lubbock, TX, Rev. Jimmie Camp and wife Joyce, of Lexington, NC; a sister, Martha Rose Carson, of Lexington, SC and seven grandchildren.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert O. Byrum, Sr. in 1956.
