Dorothy was born in Charlotte, North Carolina to her parents, James and Ola Davis. She was the oldest of ten children. She was proud to say she was from Charlotte. She never drove a car but walked or took the bus.
During WWII, Dorothy worked for the war effort at the Charlotte bomb factory making 40mm shells. The remainder of her career was spent working for Bell South and AT&T.
Dorothy was married to Jasper Carl Norwood Jr. and had two beautiful children; Donald and Kay. The family was extremely close and they all worked hard to support each other. Dorothy was a strong matriarch and continued to help take care of her large family.
She loved to read novels and would finish one weekly. Her favorite vacation place was to the beach. Dorothy loved cooking butter beans and cornbread, country music, and telling her family stories of her past.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, James and Ola Davis; siblings, Betty Jean, James Jr., Geraldine, Patty, Rachel, Anne, Linda, and Larry, and children, Donald Norwood and Kay Major.
She is survived by her brother, Jerry Davis; daughter in law, Kay Norwood; grandchildren, Richard Norwood, Jason Norwood (Emily), Charles Major (Maggie), Amanda Major Norwood (Jeff), and Mark Major; great grandchildren, Jennifer Norwood, Melissa Grooms, Ashley Norwood, Rebecca Major, Jennifer Major, Katie Major, Nicolas Angiuoli, and Ryan Angiuoli; great great grandchildren, Kason Araujo, Wyatt Barbee, Noah Grooms, Lennon Sutton and Charlotte Turner-Brown, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A small private gathering for family will be held at a later date.
