Mrs. Newton, age 85, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 30, 2012.
She was born January 27, 1927 in Charlotte, North Carolina the daughter of the late Henry Roper and Billie G. Smith. She also had a loving stepfather S.E. Smith. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, Ted J. Newton. She grew up in Charlotte, NC where she attended Tech High School.
Dot loved spending time with her family and friends, making and creating lasting memories! She never met a stranger, and always had a kind word and smile to share with others. She loved to be “on the go”, whether it was running errands or vacations, it really didn’t matter. She enjoyed it!
Dot was a lifelong member of Belmont Park United Methodist Church which later became University City United Methodist Church. She was active in the Wesley Fellowship Class, the Sew and Sews, and the Good Times Club. Her faith in God was evident in the way she lived her life. Many people saw God and felt His love through her.
Dot worked in food service for CMS schools for many years and loved the interaction with the kids. She also worked the breakfast shift at the Big Dipper where she made many lifelong friends that she considered family. She is known for her “world’s best biscuits”. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be deeply missed.
Surviving are her daughters, Nancy Newton Vance and husband Michael Vance and Terri Newton Karam and husband Greg Karam; grandchildren, Stephen Vance and wife Jamie, Courtney Karam and Taylor Karam; great grandchildren, Skylor and Bailey Vance; sister, Joyce Oates; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, February 3, 2012 at University City United Methodist Church, 3835 W. WT Harris Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28269. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
