Her name was Dorothy Rebecca Jones, she was born April 9, 1936 in Richmond, Virginia to Matthew and Rebecca Jones. They migrated to Newark, New Jersey during her teenage years, she began to work immediately to help the family. On June 30, 1957 she met and married Cole Blease Dixon and through their union they had eight children. Dorothy was a stay at home mom with a very creative and entrepreneur spirit. Cole Dixon died in October 1971 and she was left to raise 8 children alone. Dorothy was a great mom, not only to her children but to the neighborhood children as well. She was an active mom that took pride in her community and the children in it. Dorothy was an active member of the Marcus Garvey Mothers Club and title one program. She made sure that the community school had the best opportunities for each child. The Marcus Garvey Mothers hosted many fund raisers so those that attended the school had better facilities and all the educational tools needed. Dorothy was determined to make it on her own as she invested as much as she could into her children. The Dixon clan was known for always having a hustle whether it was selling hot dogs from their hot dog truck or selling snow cones on a hot summer day. Dorothy was a very serious women, she did not play but was the sweetest most soft spoken woman you'll ever meet. Dorothy knew God as her Lord and Savior from a small child to her last days. Although she is not physically with us, her love and spirit will live through each one of us forever more.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Cole B. Dixon; 3 children, Doris Ann Jones, McCalvin Dixon and Luetta Dixon; and a sister, Carolyn Bennett.
Survivors include her children, Sheila Wilbert, Randy L. Jones and his wife, Denise, Gale Parramore and her husband, Rheuben, Dale "Becky" Dixon, Cynthia Dixon and Cole B. Dixon and his wife, Sharon; 23 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
A celebration of life for Dorothy is planned for 12:00 PM Friday, August 9, 2019 at McEwen Funeral Service-Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28262.
