Doris has been reunited in Heaven with her parents, Angus A. and Irma L. Cameron; her husband, Andy Harrington; her sister, Vernelle Fillmore; and her brother, Laurel H. Cameron.
Smart, beautiful, and athletic, she graduated from Benhaven High School in 1950. Doris was Valedictorian, May Day Beauty Queen, and guard on the basketball team that won three county championships while experiencing only one loss. She went on to earn a B.S. degree in Nursing from Watts School of Nursing in Durham, NC.
She married Andy Harrington in 1954 and became a homemaker, raising her children, Paul and Peggy. She later returned to nursing, working as an RN at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte until retiring after 25 years.
Doris loyally attended Paw Creek Presbyterian Church and sang steadily in the church choir for over 50 years. She lent her nursing skills and her compassion showed as she was with many people during their final moments.
Those left to honor Doris’s memory include her children, Peggy Harrington, of Charlotte, and Paul Harrington (Myra), of Gastonia; and her grandson, Adam Moore (Samantha), of Kannapolis; as well as several loving nieces and nephews and countless dear friends.
Friends are cordially invited to the memorial service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, 7400 Mt. Holly Road in Charlotte, with visitation immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doris’s name to Paw Creek Presbyterian Church or to Morris Chapel Methodist Church.
