Dr. Daniel Mark Downs, an orthopedic surgeon with a career spanning over 35 years, passed away on December 16, 2023, in Charlotte, North Carolina, at the age of 73 from Myasthenia Gravis, a rare disease.
Born on January 12, 1950, in Dalton, New York, Daniel was the son of Roland and Ida Downs, both of whom preceded him in death. Daniel's dedication to learning led him to pursue higher education at West Point and Albany Medical School, where he honed his skills and passion for medicine.
Throughout his professional life, Dr. Downs made significant contributions to the field of orthopedic surgery, providing compassionate care and improving the lives of countless patients.
Outside of his medical practice, Daniel cherished his personal relationships. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Downs, and their children and stepchildren, Andrea Downs Sauer, Tracey Downs, Jeffrey Downs, Jason Timothy, Randy Timothy, and Erin Howe. Additionally, Papa Dan leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. He was also a beloved sibling to 9 brothers and sisters.
Dr. Daniel Mark Downs will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his patients, his commitment to his family, and his contributions to the medical community. His legacy will continue to inspire and impact those whose lives he touched.
