Daniel Howard Martin passed away on August 21, 2019 at the age of 57. Dan was born on July 21, 1962 in New York to the late Raymond and Mary Martin. He went to school and grew up with great friends that he kept through the years. After high school he attended college in New York where he met his lovely wife Elaine.
Dan’s professional career started in North Carolina. He was a police officer at Pineville Police Department (retired) and was on reserve status at the time of his death. Dan was passionate about being a police officer and loved working side by side with his brothers in blue, helping out whenever needed. Dan taught at CPCC’s police academy and was a proud graduate of the FBI National Academy 233 session. His current position was as an account engineer with Zurich Insurance Company.
Dan was a member of Calvary Church and was involved in its homeless ministry outreach, which he took over after his father-in-law’s passing. Dan was self-taught on the guitar and with his parents influence played the piano. Family and friends meant the world to Dan and he could always be counted on to lend a hand in any situation. He most enjoyed spending time with family and loved being silly “Unkie” Dan to his nephews and niece. He always had a joke or funny story to tell.
Dan’s happy place was spending time at his cottage where he could often be found working on a project, tooling around on his tractor or kayaking. He so loved getting in his boat, cruising the lake and spending time with his best friend and love of his life, Elaine.
Dan is survived by his wife of 33 years, Elaine Martin, brother Michael Martin, mother-in-law Jean Martin, brother-in-law Mark Martin, sister-in-law Alison Martin, nephews Alexander and Lucas and niece Gabriella.
A visitation will be held from 4pm to 8pm on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at McEwen Pineville Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 7pm on Wednesday August 28, 2019 at Calvary Church Chapel.
