Clinton Erskine Thompson passed away July 6th, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janice Thompson; his children Karen Thompson, Bobby Thompson and wife Tia, and Teresa Helms; his three grandchildren Kayla Ross Werner, Rachel Shannon Helms, and Robert Dillon Thompson, and two great grandchildren Rowen Vosicky and Remington Werner.
Clinton was born December 7th, 1929 to Frank and Ida Thompson of Rock Hill, South Carolina. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1948, serving in the Korean War in the 934th Sig Bn 2nd Radio Relay Sq., and later joining the Army National Guard. Following his military service, Clinton worked and ultimately retired from AT&T, formerly Southern Bell, as the Assistant Manager of the Switching Control Center.
Throughout his life Clinton continued his service of the Veteran community, having joined the American Legion in 1952 at Rock Hill Post 34 and later transferring to Morris Field Post 380 in Charlotte, North Carolina. In his 69 years with the American legion, Clinton served in all offices, local, department and national, including service as National Vice Commander.
Clinton loved spending his spare time with family and friends doing the things he loved most including annual deep-sea fishing trips, boating on Lake Norman, and going to Carolina Panthers games. Clinton lived a full and happy life of 91 years. While he will be missed by all those who loved him, we will forever cherish the many years we shared together.
