Clifford Arthur Normandy, 98, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Charlotte Health and Rehabilitation in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was in the company of his loving family and in the devoted care of hospice.
Born May 7, 1917 in Marblehead, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Harry D. Normandy and Ethel May Stubbs Normandy. Following graduation from Marblehead High School, he attended and graduated from the Bently School of Accounting and Finance in Boston, Massachusetts. He was employed as an operation reporting analyst at the corporate headquarters of Burlington Industries for 32 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the U.S. Armed Forces from 1942 to 1945, attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant.
Clifford was a member of First Baptist Church in Greensboro for more than fifty years. He and his wife, the late Dixie Matheny Normandy, whom he married in November 17, 1943, had been residents of Greensboro since 1946. After his retirement, he became an avid bowler, participating in several leagues and occasionally serving as president or vice president.
He is survived by three children: Elizabeth Normandy of Fayetteville, NC; Philip Normandy of Kensington, MD; Laura Normandy Magee and son-in-law Mike Magee of Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Andrew Magee and Katlyn Magee of Charlotte, NC; and a niece, Nancy Ramsden of Salem, MA.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Marion Normandy Schultz.
A private service with military honors will be held at Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro.
