He was born December 2, 1966 in Dubuque, Iowa. Jim spent his career as a chef in fine dining restaurant kitchens. Traveling from Dubuque to Arizona and California, he came to Charlotte in 1988 where he worked in many of the city’s restaurants and hotels. He took great pleasure in sharing his love of food and cooking with friends and family, feeding all who knew him and many in the local homeless population. He was thrilled to be a father, spending much of Devin and Jarrett’s childhoods as a stay-at-home dad. He enjoyed the outdoors, loud music, wandering through large cities making friends with strangers, his beloved Minnesota Vikings and having a good time. He was well-loved by close friends who will miss his generous spirit, dry sense of humor, memorable antics, and laughter.
He is preceded in death by his father Charles James Jones Sr. and cherished grandparents John and Margery Jones and Paul and Margaret Kelly, of Dubuque. He is survived by his wife and children, his mother Eilean Marshall and brother Richard of Dubuque, daughter Megan Amanda Taylor of Charlotte, niece Olivia Haigler (Atlanta, GA) and niece and nephew Cutiellia and Cameron Jones (Dubuque, IA). He also leaves behind many loved aunts, uncles and cousins in Dubuque who are expected to keep telling stories of his legendary exploits whenever they gather together.
A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later time. Please consider donations to your local food pantry in his memory.
