Mr. Blackwell, age 61, of Charlotte, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House. His love and kindness will be greatly missed. Born April 12, 1951 in Guilford County, he was the son of Ernestine Carter Blackwell and the late George Thomas Blackwell. Mr. Blackwell was a 1969 graduate of Harding High School and attended ECPI University before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in the Philippines as a Airman First Class Specialist of the SAC Canine Division. After serving in the Air Force, Mr. Blackwell studied finance under the G.I. Bill. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include daughter, Nina Mignon Blackwell (Michael Lewis); mother, Ernestine Carter Blackwell; sister, Carolyn Blackwell Adams (Charles); niece, Angela Elain Blackwell; nephew, Jessie Glenn Hayes (Valerie); aunts, Emma Lou Carter Pegues and Virginia Alice Blackwell Bryant; two great nieces; two great nephews; and several cousins. In addition to his father, Mr. Blackwell was preceded in death by a brother, George William Blackwell, Sr. and nephew, George William Blackwell, Jr.
The family will receive friends 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Friday and 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM Saturday at Wilson Funeral & Cremation Service. Graveside service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, with Reverend McCray Holmes and Reverend Tim Lichley, officiating.
