Carl Leon Smith, Jr. passed away at home on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl Leon & Lila Barley Smith; brothers Ray Douglas and James Bradley; sister Emma Lee. Carl is survived by his wife of 36 years Judy Matheney Smith; children Carla and John; grandchildren Jeffrey Derek and Carl Douglas; great-grandchildren Everleigh and Madilyn; brother Joseph Everett. Special thanks and love goes to his niece, Angie Lee for her help, care and support during his last time with us.
Carl was born in Charlotte, NC on October 23, 1935. He graduated from Central Piedmont Community College with a degree in Police Science-Criminology, attended UNCC and served 30 years with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department retiring in 1988 as a Sergeant in the Baker 3 Division.
A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Sharon Memorial Park.
