My brother, it has been a while since you left us in the mess of a world without you.I think of you daily and wish I could back up time when we were partying and you were looking out for us crazies. You are a part of my heart then, now and tomorrow.

My heart sank when I saw this obituary. I was a part of Lanny's 'family' from 1994 to 2003. It was the most fun job I have ever had and enjoyed the relationships I made while working for him. He once paid me the greatest compliment I have ever received...he told my parents that if he ever had a son he would want him a lot like me. I hold that dear to my heart to this day. It was an honor to work for him and an honor to know him...RIP my friend!

So sorry to hear of Lanny's passing. He was a great guy and loyal to his friends. I remember the golf matches in the early 1970's at Larkhaven Golf Course. Then in the late 1970's I was a wine salesman and he was buying all my wine for his restaurants but when Tommy Ross left our company and went with Vintage Wine, all my orders stopped from Lanny's because he went to school with Tommy at East Meck. He finally started buying some from me. But that just shows what a loyal friend he was. I love The White Horse and Lanny's and had many great times there. Hope you have as much success in heaven as you did here on earth Lanny. RIP

When I went to Charlotte to visit my sister, I always had to go to Lanny's to eat some awesome food, best wings in town, I really loved the French onion soup, but you had to let it cool at lease an hour, or you would melt your taste buds out. I met some friendly people at Lanny's, I was so sad when you closed down. Lanny always made me feel so welcomed at his place. RIP Lanny, you were an amazing man, heaven gained an amazing angel when God received you.

As all can see by the response of so many,Lanny was a special person for me to have known for 70 years. I will not soon get over your passing. Love you brother!

I was saddened to heard the news of Lanny's passing.  He was a kind and gentle spirit and had the best restaurant/sports bar ever. We had many a great time at the Albemarle Road site and was a favorite place to meet friends for food and drinks after work.  Thank you Lanny for many happy memories.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Lanny was a great friend and mentor to me. He stuck by me after the death of my father. I worked for him in 1977 at Lanny's Albemarle Road and there again from 1990 to 2004. I learned so much from him in that time. I also had the honor of working with Rosa Lee and Dennis (prince) Glover a few times at Lanny's on Monroe Road. He was the kind of person anyone could trust and rely on. What I learned from him was priceless in life. Above anything else he was a friend to me. He was one of the last true friends I have. I will keep you in my thoughts Lanny. Godspeed sir.

I met Lanny in 1957 when I moved from Charlotte to Hickory Grove and became one of the "Grove Boys".  We had great times fishing those lakes.  Lanny's was the place to hang out with old friends.  He was the best.  RIP, Lanny.

There are no words for the love Lanny gave me as I worked for him for 16 years. He was always there for me. I think of him with the utmost respect and am grateful to have spent such a large part of my life knowing him.

I worked for LANNY about 7 years on Monroe Rd. He was a great boss, teacher and friend. The most generous person I have ever met. I agree with LUSTY he was a gift from GOD.WE WILL MISS YOU.

I have known Lanny and his family all of my life. My grandmother and then my mother worked for his mom, Mrs Cooper. My mom would sometimes take me to work with her. Mrs Cooper was one of the nicest people I have ever known. She went above and beyond being an employer. She was a friend as well. In later years, my mom went to work for Lanny, first at the White Horse and then at Lanny's. He named one the sandwiches on the menu, Rosa Lee's Rueben after my mom. The last time I saw Lanny was at my mom's wake in 2007. Rest in peace, dear friend. Tell my mom and your mom I said hello

Rest in peace Lanny; was sorry to hear you had to go.  You were a blessing to many in this life (including "Jon" the cat - as I've heard).  You were very well thought of.  As you enter heavens gates be sure to find Pat and Marzelle, they'll be there with my husband Earl and my son Eddie.  Give them all a hug for me as I surely do miss them.  I'll see you and them one day when my work on this earth is done meanwhile, I'll try to keep Mike Bodie in line until God calls.  To Lanny's family, I pray God's Holy Spirit will  comfort you in the days ahead.

I am sorry to hear of his passing, he was a nice man, very friendly, and hardworking. His restaurant was the first sports bar in Charlotte. He will surely will be missed by many.

Lanny's was my home away from home. He was a very special man

Since I was 5 years old, Lanny was my neighbor until I moved out of my parents home to be on my own. I remember I had begged my dad for a kitten. "An orange one with stripes!" I would say. Eventually my dad came across one one day and brought him home. He was the fluffiest thing I had ever seen and even though you couldn't see his stripes very well, he was orange with light teal eyes, absolutely handsome! He was quite the outside cat. I named him, Jon. 
Even though the cat was given to me, Jon had a different idea in mind to who his owner was. He would come home fed, brushed and purring up a storm. Lanny would tell us how my cat would come over on a daily basis to get groomed, petted and have a snack. Jon was very fond of Lanny, and Lanny loved Jon. If he didn't see him for a while he would ask if we had seen him. I'd find him and send him Lanny's way. Jon would only come over for dinner time. And then leave to love on Lanny. I could never bring my heart to taking Jon with me anywhere I lived after leaving my parents...because Jon was now Lanny's cat, and they needed each other. I wish I could have spared Lanny the heartbreak of when "Jon the cat" had died about 3 years ago, due to an accident. But unfortunately, death does happen. Hopefully, now they can be together all the time. Thank you Lanny, you are a wonderful neighbor. :)

Lanny was a fine gentleman and always kind to me.  To his many friends and remaining family I wish you God's Grace and Comfort. RIP Lanny!

Lanny was part of the neighborhood gang when I was a young teenager in Hickory Grove.  We spent countless hours on bikes, swimming in the lake, and playing ball. I lost touch with Lanny after school and moving away from Charlotte, but will always remember his friendship that was a big part of my growing up.  Rest in peace Lanny.

I consider Lanny a good friend.  We go back to high school at East.  I recall many a late night bowling at Coliseum Lanes.  I loved his 55 ford and the many afternoons at Hickory Grove Elem. playing basketball.  I had to quit visiting his restaurant because he always wanted to comp. me.  Lanny was in my wedding in 1962. I'll miss him, a good friend and a kind man, but know he's in a better place now with perfect health. My prayers are with the family.

It has been many years since I have seen Lanny.  At the time I knew him he was always very quiet.  In 1962 he was an groomsman in my wedding to Leonard Ross.. My prayers to his family and friends.  May he rest in peace.

I first met Lanny at the White Horse on Monroe Rd. Man, that was great pizza and grinders! Can't tell you how many times I went to Lanny's on Albemarle but it never got old. Lanny made it that way. It was an institution. Through our friendship during the Pine Lake days Lanny was the consummate gentleman. Loved golf and his friends. We all have lost a great friend and when he opens that Lanny's in Heaven I hope he saves me a seat. My sincere condolences to the Sigmon family. RIP Lanny.

So very sorry to hear of Lanny's passing.  Lanny's step-father Pat was my great uncle (my mother's uncle and my papaw's brother).  He was a very kind person who seemed to love family.  He enjoyed very much the
years he spent with the restaurant and
with his employees and patrons there. He is happy and healthy now in heaven with his mother, father and step-father.  Rest in peace Lanny for your work on this earth is done.
