Brenda May Smith

Brenda May Smith of Charlotte, NC passed away at Harris Hospice (Novant Presbyterian Hospital) on May 30, 2024 after a prolonged illness. She was 80 years old. Born in Flint, Michigan she was the daughter of William Harold Bates and Eloise Marion Bates. Brenda was survived by her two sons, Stephen James Smith II and wife Shelley, and Mark Brandon Smith and wife Emily. Brenda was a loving grandmother to Brandon Daramanivong, Stephen Smith III, David Smith and wife Shea, Andrew Daramanivong, Chase Smith, Logan Smith and Jordan Smith. At the time of her passing Brenda was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Elijah Daramanivong and Isaiah Smith. Brenda was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Stephen James Smith Sr. She shared nine nieces and seven nephews in addition to many more family members and dear friends that considered her a caring and generous person. Brenda retired from Novant Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, following a long career in patient registration. Brenda laughed a lot and had a wicked sense of humor. She loved to be surrounded by laughing children, loving people and her beloved dogs. Brenda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt; she was “Good People”, and she will be missed.
